It's been more than 2 years when I reluctantly came to Hyderabad, as this was where I got posted to after my 6 month training in Infosys Mysore, which were outright heavenly, to say the least! There was reluctance, there was apprehension and there was excitement in my steps as I moved around the Hyderabad airport, trying to recall the terms my long time college friend Sagar (who was one of the two college friends I knew here) had told me the previous night. I scraped around for "AeroExpress" and bought a ticket for "Hi-Tech City" (What a Loser Name - was my first thought about it!!!) and reached the place in 45 minutes. Sagar had come at the bus stop with Anubhav and within half an hour, I was with them at their flat, sharing my experiences of the Mysore training days and, since it was Anubhav and Sagar throwing questions at me, the typical "How many girls" and "what happened to so and so girl" were natural.
Someone has probably fast forwarded the past two years that were eventful in many ways. Projects were taken up and completed and each passing day made me question myself, "Do you really see yourself doing this for the next 5 years". The initial answer was "No" and it remained the same even though one project was completed after the other. After a certain point, the decision to go for MBA was made and that was the time real fun began. Once you give two hoots to your appraisal/growth/skill set (and other such nonsense), you can really ENJOY and that's what I decided to do.
The fact that despite being a part of 4 different projects none of my friends belong to any of those teams speaks volumes about how much I cared for them. The icing on the cake is the fact that I once got a feedback that I don't "gel well enough" with my team. Normally I am not the one to isolate myself but then when you are in a group of 10 people, 9 of whom prefer chit chatting in their own language, you can't help yourself from avoiding them for the rest of your lives.
Anyways, that left plenty of room for friendships to be formed via sports and that is how the friend circle got formed here. Nothing better than having like minded, unselfish, helpful friends in a new city.
The joy for CRICKET was rediscovered, friendships were formed on and around the Infosys Hyd Cricket Ground, the realization struck that I am not a technical guy and won't want to continue in the IT field, etc, etc. 2 years is a long time and all of a sudden, people who formed my "core group" here in Hyderabad have gone different ways. Now they are working out of different cities, different countries, different companies and some have gone back to colleges to give the finishing touch to their career, i.e. to take the inevitable "MBA" plunge. I am no exception and two months down the line, I would also have joined the MBA bandwagon.
Don't know what the future holds but I'll have to do it all over again, i.e. moving to an alien city, carving my own niche, forging my own social circle and yeah... there's an MBA degree to be completed and a job to be found. Exciting two years ahead in Faridabad!

ReplyDeleteI did all my degrees through distance learning and really miss to have attended real college...
College has its own charm, Shefali. But then, I'm sure you would have utilized your time in a much efficient manner while you did your degrees through distance learning. Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteTotally relate to "when you are in a group of 10 people, 9 of whom prefer chit chatting in their own language, you can't help yourself from avoiding them for the rest of your lives". and you are sure gonna have fun.. All the best :)
